What is confirmation?

Confirmation is a public rite of the church preceded by a period of instruction designed to help baptized Christians identify with the life and mission of the Christian community ... Prior to admission to the Lord’s Supper, it is necessary to be instructed in the Christian faith (1 Cor. 11:28). The rite of confirmation provides an opportunity for the individual Christian, relying on God’s promise given in Holy Baptism, to make a personal public confession of the faith and a lifelong pledge of fidelity to Christ. (From question 306 in Luther’s Small Catechism with Explanation)

Who & When:

Students in the 6th and 7th grades are invited to participate in confirmation instruction. Class sessions meet each Wednesday from 7-8:30pm (except during Advent and Lent and other times as noted) beginning in September and concluding in late May or early June. An additional one or two sessions may be scheduled on Saturdays during Lent. The Rite of Confirmation will take place during the a 10:45 Divine Service at some point in early late May or early June following the second year of instruction.

One year's instruction will consist of an overview of the Bible and God’s salvation history, with reference to Luther’s Small Catechism. The other year will strictly consist of a study of the Six Chief Parts of the Small Catechism.
